Before

It’s a familiar sight - grey, grimy decking that’s seen the worst of the weather. Covered in garden detritus and a liberal coating of algae, it just doesn’t look like the kind of place you want to relax during the warm weather. For some homeowners, the prospect of trying to clean decking and bring their decking back to its former glory is just too daunting and so it ends up being an abandoned.

But for this Conservit client, rescue was on the way in the form of Conservit’s very own garden SWOT team. Armed with the Conservit products application experts got to work to turn this forlorn looking platform back into the glamorous outside room it was originally intended to be.

After

In under two hours the now clean decking is created. Gone is the grey washed out appearance, the grime and the algae. In their place, plank after pristine plank of golden timber, ready to welcome the family out of the house and back into the garden for their Easter BBQs.

Tom, the client had this to say about the results:-

“The decking was dangerous and an eyesore, a virtual ice rink. The Conservit products have brought the deck back to new! Just like the day it was laid. Thanks to Conservit for applying the system, couple of hours work – Job done! Now we can use the clean deck again for the first time in two years.”

Don’t forget to invite us to the BBQ Tom!!

The Conservit Decking Cleaning Kit comprises one litre each of our Garden Wood Restorer and Garden Wood Protection. Available to buy online and from a growing network of garden centre outlets.

As Spring approaches, our thoughts turn once more to the garden. Chances are as you look out of your window, the first thing you’ll notice is that your decking needs cleaning and how grey it has gone over the winter. That flat expanse of dirty, grey, algae-covered planks bears little resemblance to the stylish outdoor room you imagined from that gardening magazine or TV show. So what went wrong?

Well, the natural elements in decking mean that the surface of the wood oxidises when exposed to sun, wind and rain causing the wood to go grey if left untreated. This surface will collect dirt, dust, pollen and other items blown around by the wind.

Once this environmental carpet starts to build on your deck, the conditions are right for algae to grow. Algae will flourish in the damp conditions and over time will create a slippery blanket on the surface of the wood.

Not only is this unsightly but can be a hazard as the wood will become increasingly slippery as the algae continues to multiply.

This carpet on the surface of the wood also holds moisture and when temperatures drop below zero, the water held in the micro fibrous roots of the algae will freeze. This freezing will gradually deteriorate the surface of the decking and eventually split the surface allowing more water to seep into the fibre of the wood, which again will freeze and expand – gradually breaking up the wood.

One of the most common methods of cleaning decking is to jetwash it. The high pressure water lifts surface dirt and strips away a microscopic layer of the timbers, returning the wood to its original colour. Typically after cleaning the decking, a couple of coats of teak oil are applied. While this approach can be effective in quickly restoring decking, it isn’t particularly long lasting. It is only a matter of months, or even weeks, before the decking starts to turn grey again and needs to be cleaned once more.

Conservit’s approach to cleaning decking is rather different. Firstly, by stripping off the ‘carpet’ and the grey oxidisation with Conservit Wood Restorer, the wood can be returned to its natural state. Then by applying Conservit Wood Protection the wood will be protected from the elements and water will be stopped on the surface removing the risk of damage. Algae will not survive in these dry conditions and as such your decking will no longer become dangerously slippery when wet.

Unlike the conventional jet wash and teak oil method to clean decking, using the Conservit approach gives protection that will last for at least two years.

We have become a nation of shower takers. Homeowners now spend significant amounts having bathrooms designed and installed – with expensive tiles, designer name bathroom suites and the latest hi-tech shower. They look fantastic in the brochure and amazing when finished, but the gloss soon wears off as the bathroom is used on a daily basis.

We all have the best intentions of keeping our bathroom looking like new, but with busy lifestyles keeping on top of things can soon slip and one area that soon starts to look less than glossy is the shower enclosure. Shower gel, soap, shampoo, conditioner, body scrub – they’re all designed to keep us clean but they have a habit of building up on the glass of the shower enclosure where they have the opposite effect.

So we’ve taken our Glass Protection System, used to keep the glass windows in ocean going ships clean and clear, and adapted it for home use. We’ve created a Shower Makeover Kit that provides enough of our revolutionary product to clean then protect your glass shower enclosure (with enough left over to give your bathroom mirror the same treatment).

Quick and easy to apply, the Conservit Shower Makeover Kit will remove existing deposits of soap scum and dirt then coat the glass with a protective layer that smooths the surface of the glass at a microscopic leve so that water runs more quickly over the surface and soap and dirt particles can’t get a hold.

The result? A sparkling clean shower enclosure that stays clean for up to a year. All that’s needed is the occasional wipe over with a damp cloth – no more gunge, no more scrubbing.

The Shower Makeover Kit is available to purchase online and will soon become available in selected retail outlets.

Conservit customer Paul, owner of Tickety Boo, a 32ft Bavaria berthed in Portishead had a common problem. Over the years, as waves and rain had washed over the stern, the hinges of the cockpit lockers had leeched metal into the water, which had created unsightly rust stains down the transom.

Tickety Boo's transom showing that persistent rust stain

Paul had spent a small fortune trying numerous general and specialist cleaning products, but the stains stubbornly remained making his yacht look rather shabby despite all his hard work.

A good friend of Conservit distributor Martin Oscroft-Crompton, Paul agreed to give the transom – and those stubborn rust stains – the Conservit treatment.

Martin and Paul first washed the whole area with stage one of the Conservit Hull Restoration Kit – a powerful detergent to lift surface dirt.

Next they applied stage two – our restorer product to the entire area – using a soft cotton cloth to work the restorer into the surface to buff away stains and scratches – paying particular attention to the rust stains. To Paul’s amazement, after only a few minutes work, the rust stains were gone.

Finally Martin and Paul applied stage three – our polish which brings back the shine to the surface and gives a degree of protection from future staining and scratching.

The results – one sparklingly clean transom, free of rust stains.

A gleaming finish after the Hull Restoration Kit makes light work of the rust stain

Martin caught up with Paul the following week and asked how Tickety Boo was looking. Paul’s reply:

“What was noticeable when I approached the boat last weekend (last time I was down there) was how much cleaner and whiter it looked. That’s just walking along the pontoon thinking about other things, rather than standing back and studying it.”

Paul’s now ready to work on the rest of the boat so that it can all look as great as his newly refurbished transom.

“I’m delighted that we have WPS on board” said Michelle McDines, Conservit’s Director of Sales & Marketing. “They are a perfect example of the kind of company we want to work with and support going forward.”

WPS provide specialist cleaning and maintenance consultancy, services and products to water parks and related businesses. They have become distributors of Conservit products as a result of the two companies working together on a recent project.

WPS approached Conservit to work with them to solve ongoing issues with floor tile maintenance at The Sandcastle in Blackpool.

The Sandcastle had engaged WPS as they were dissatisfied with the results of their existing floor cleaning regimen. In common with many older design water parks, The Sandcastle has areas which are accessed by customers in both outdoor shoes and bare feet. This meant tiles were being soiled in two very different ways – a situation that a general floor cleaning product just wasn’t able to tackle.

Combining WPS’s experience in water parks with Conservit’s expertise in developing targeted cleaning and maintenance solutions, the project team were able to develop a detergent product capable of removing both types of soiling without adding any cost or time to the maintenance regimen of The Sandcastle.

WPS were so impressed with the results achieved by Conservit’s products that they immediately signed up as a distributor.

“We have absolutely no doubt that Conservit can provide WPS with the expertise, products and ongoing support that we need to drive our business forward and further improve the services we offer to current and future clients in the water park industry” said a WPS spokesperson.

For more information on becoming a Conservit distributor, please contact Michelle McDines on 01606 869988.

Conservit are delighted to announce the enlistment of Martin Oscroft-Crompton of www.activesail.com as their first distributor of their Marine range of products.

Martin is a professional skipper offering experience days, holidays and private charters as well as boat delivery services. Based in Portishead near Bristol, Martin has many years sailing experience and extensive contacts in the industry.

“When Conservit first approached me with the opportunity to promote their products I was a little sceptical.” said Martin. “Cleaning products for boats come and go and many don’t deliver the kind of results they promise.”

Conservit’s Sales & Marketing Director, Michelle McDines, explained to Martin that our products are not just about cleaning but also about renovating and protecting boats so that future maintenance requirements are reduced. Martin agreed to give some of the products a try.

“I tried the Conservit Hull Restoration Kit on some persistant stains on a friend’s yacht” explains Martin. “I was so impressed with the results and the ease of application that I decided to become a distributor of the products. Being a Conservit distributor gives me an additional revenue stream for my business, especially during the winter months when sailing days are fewer.”

Martin will be helping spread the word about the Conservit Marine range throughout the Bristol area both selling directly to fellow sailors and getting the Conservit Marine range stocked by local chandlers.

For more information on how to become a Conservit distributor for our Marine range (or any of the other Conservit ranges) fill in our enquiry form or call Michelle McDines on 01606 869988.

The kit contains a specially developed UPVC cleaner, a refurbishment formula that will remove scratches and stubborn marks and a unique polish that gives an instant shine and protection to the newly cleaned surface. Conservatory cleaning is now made easier for the DIY enthusiast.

There are other general purpose cleaners on the market that claim to clean UPVC frames. Conservit systems do more than clean. They provide a specially formulated detergent that will remove carbon deposits from airborne contaminates and contaminates found in rain. These deposits are more than dust and general grime – they form hard to remove stains. Included in the system kit is a unique product developed for Conservit that removes marks and scuffs. No other product on the market offers this. Finally the system has a polymer-based polish that reduces maintenance and keep the frames cleaner for longer.

The system can be used inside and outside and also used on other plastics to the same effect.

Conservit has launched a range for trade and retail that cleans and protects stone and wood. With Conservit’s values of extending the life of assets the range keeps moisture from penetrating wood and stone – applying a protective barrier that impregnates the stone or wood, repelling water and other liquids and giving a stain resistant coating thus enhancing the appearance and extending the life of the stone or wood.

Stone outside under normal conditions is susceptible to wear and tear from the elements. Frost will break up even the hardest of stones. Add to this Algae, Moss and Lichen combined with modern air and rain pollutants and the stone really will need some assistance. The same scenario applies to wood.

Conservit can now offer a range of products and service that will clean and protect stone in all forms and wood in both internal and external circumstances.
